Mary Jo Housman

When she lived in Japan, Asian painting first claimed Mary Jo. She studied weaving with a "National Treasure." Asian textiles are echoed in the color and texture of her paintings.

She exhibits widely. Mary Jo's works hang in homes in West Los Angeles, Berkeley, New York and throughout San Diego County, where residents speak of a newly felt calm and serenity. Recently Mary Jo focuses on the art of Asian calligraphy, exhibits her calligraphy, and twice won first place in the American Artists of Chinese Brush Painting exhibit. Her Chinese name is “New Moon.”
