I
began painting in 2006 and starting late, I settled on one medium, Asian brush
painting. Zen Buddhism and martial arts influenced both my life and my decision
to study art as the Way, but yet as a California artist. To quote Zen Master
Dogen, “To study the Way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget
the self. To forget the self is to be enlightened by all things.” I use my
Buddhist name Kazan as my artist name, and aim to portray a subject’s essence
with directness and simplicity.
